Homemade Condensed Milk with 3 Ingredients
Introduction
Condensed milk, also known as sweetened condensed milk, is a thick, creamy dairy product made by removing most of the water from milk and adding sugar. It has a smooth, velvety texture and a rich, caramel-like flavor. Traditionally used in desserts, candies, and beverages, it’s also the secret behind creamy ice creams and fudgy sweets.
This 3-ingredient homemade condensed milk recipe gives you the same sweet goodness as the store-bought version — but fresher, cheaper, and healthier!
Ingredients
You only need 3 simple ingredients:
- 1 cup low-fat milk powder
- ½ cup hot water
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
- (Optional but recommended) ½ cup sugar or 2–3 tablespoons honey for extra sweetness
Instructions
- Heat the Water:
- Pour ½ cup of water into a saucepan or bowl and heat until hot (not boiling).
- Add Butter:
- Add 1 tablespoon of unsalted butter into the hot water and stir until fully melted.
- Blend the Ingredients:
- In a blender or mixing bowl, combine the milk powder with the hot water-butter mixture.
- Add sugar or honey if you want it sweetened.
- Blend or whisk for 1–2 minutes until smooth, thick, and creamy.
- Cool Down:
- Pour the mixture into a clean, dry glass jar.
- Let it cool completely before sealing with a lid.
- Store:
- Keep it in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
- Before use, stir it well (it may thicken slightly when chilled).
Methods
1. Blending Method:
Using a blender ensures smooth, lump-free condensed milk. Blend until the texture turns thick and glossy.
2. Manual Mixing Method:
If you don’t have a blender, whisk the ingredients vigorously with a hand whisk until smooth and creamy.
3. Double-Boil Method (Optional):
You can heat the mixture gently in a double boiler for 3–5 minutes to get a thicker consistency like commercial condensed milk.
